A stylish new limited-production 38′ ocean-capable motor cruiser aims to serve the growing market demand for accessible recreational boating options.

Hull #1 of the new Cape Sable design from Cape Island Cruisers Ltd. is well under construction by Dagley’s Boatworks in Nova Scotia. The fibreglass hull has been completed; launch and sea trials are slated for early summer.

This new motor cruiser will become  a cousin of Maine’s well-known lobsteryachts. The Cape Sable hull design is based on the highly regarded, hugely successful “Cape Islander” — the origin of today’s lobster boats. Based on commercial vessels that have long operated along rugged coasts and in North Atlantic fishing grounds, this new design provides an elegant and safe boating-home for a generation of Maritimers looking to cruise the wonderful waters at their doorstep.

In addition to boatbuilder Scott Dagley of Dagley’s Boatworks, the Cape Island Cruiser team includes John Steele, blue water sailor and founder of Covey Island Boatworks. “I can’t think of a more suitable power boat to explore and enjoy the coasts of the Maritimes, New England, the Caribbean,” says Steele. “The Cape Islander concept is just so well-proven to this application it’s a natural.” The Cape Sable design is set up and equipped to be safely handled by a couple.

Steele believes Dagley’s Boatworks is a perfect fit for Cape Island Cruisers, based on “the builder’s reputation for good value and solid, honest workmanship.” The company was founded by owner/manager Scott Dagley, a fourth-generation boatbuilder, in 1993. The shop has been handling new builds and repairs in fibreglass, wood composite and traditional wood for satisfied customers ever since.
